There are several ways to keep your FirstClass area organized.

Adding Conferences to the Desktop

Conferences are an important part of FirstClass. They allow you to communicate with different groups within Dublin City Schools. There are probably some Conferences that mean more to you than others. You can add any Conference to your FirstClass Desktop so that you can monitor it and access it more easily.

To add a Conference to the FirstClass Desktop, go to the Conference and select it. Then in the top of the window, click the "Add to Desktop" button. If the button is not showing, you may need to enlarge the window so that it shows.

Another way to add it to the FirstClass Desktop, is to select the Conference and then go to "Collaborate" in the top menu area and down to "Add to Desktop".

The Conference will appear on your FirstClass Desktop and can be moved as needed.

Please Note: Any Building News Conference can be added to your Desktop. You don't need to contact anyone to gain access to a Building News area or to have it placed on your FirstClass Desktop.

Deleting Conferences or Folders from your FirstClass Desktop

FC DeleteConference.png

Conferences can be deleted from your FirstClass Desktop.

Simply select the Conference you wish to remove and hit the Delete key on your keyboard.

A message will appear asking you to verify that you really do want to delete the Conference. When you click "Delete", the Conference will be removed from your FirstClass Desktop.

Some Conferences are protected. So, if no message appears, then you do not have the ability to delete that particular Conference.

If you try to delete an "original" Conference or Folder with messages or sub-conferences inside, you will get the message shown. It lets you know that all messages, files and sub-conferences contained in the Conference or Folder you are deleting will be lost if deleted. Please proceed carefully.

Creating Folders to Organize Email

You may want to organize your email by moving it from your Inbox to folders that you create. Since emails only stay in your Inbox for 120 days, moving them into a folder allows you to keep the email for a longer period of time. If the email has an attachment, however, the attachment should be saved to your Desktop and the email with the attachment should not be moved to a folder unless absolutely necessary. Attachments are one way you can lose available space quickly.

Emails can be moved to folders in your Mailbox area or to folders on your FirstClass Desktop.

Creating Folders in the Mailbox Area

FC NewFolder.png
To create a folder in the Mailbox area, first have your Mailbox open.

Use the pulldown menu next to the "New" button. Select "New Folder" from the list of choices.

The folders can be renamed and will appear along with your messages in your Mailbox.

Reading Pane Options

There are several ways that your Mailbox could be set up and viewed. Explore the different options and find what works for you.

One button to explore is found at the bottom right of the Mailbox Window. Keep clicking it to rotate through the different options.

Split Views

Other viewing options to explore are "Split Views". This is a way to separate the folders you created from your email messages.

Explore Split View by going to "View", down to "Split", and over to "Split Horizontal" or "Split Vertical"

Emails can then be easily dragged into these folders.

This is an example of the Horizontal Split.
